Industrial Ministry’s programme, Bright Star, has changed many lives over the years. Thamryn Mars from the URCSA Bishop Lavis shares with us how this programme changed her life: “I was very shy when I was with other people and I couldn’t communicate properly, but thanks to this programme I became brighter and even performed better at school. Rev Jannie Booysen (the presenter) also taught me a lot about values in life. Now I understand what the church is about.”
The Bright Star programme has been successfully used to inspire and equip numerous teenagers on the Cape Flats to understand how precious they are, what values to develop and how to determine the purpose of their lives.
Rev Jannie Booysen, minister of the URCSA Delft and spiritual worker of Industrial Ministry, trained several groups in the past and is doing so again this year at Belhar, Bellville. He offers the training during three consecutive workshops and covers three modules, namely:
- Brilliant Self
- Brilliant Relationships
- Brilliant Leadership

Rev Booysen explains, “Bright Star wants to teach us how to equip and empower ourselves. We focus on personal and relationship skills, how to apply it to enhance their lives to a level of excellence, and to also focus on leadership. The gaps in our lives can be addressed by using these skills,” Rev Booysen explains. “We teach them how to handle conflict and how to choose their own values.”
Josh Amos, one of the students, says, “It helped me to understand what my purpose on earth is; it also helped me to determine what my values are.”
