“I don’t always go to church, but I listen to RSG and Landa. You get something, it gives you a feeling of calmness and it makes a difference in your life,” says Jannie Senekal, one of the workers at Bester Transport in Vredenburg. “Landa’s willingness encourages me. After everything she has been through she could have given up and felt sorry for herself, but that is not what we were placed on this earth to do.”
Landa Bester, who lost her husband a few years ago, is responsible for the spiritual care of the employees at 28 businesses in town, as well as the employees in the various departments at Transnet and Saldanha Harbour. She is also involved with Straatwerk’s poppie project, Valuable for Jesus, with which she had already reached more than 7 000 children.
Landa feels strongly that, while we are alive, we have to do everything in our power to sow good seed for Christ. Her zeal is contagious.
The following request was made the other day by one of the other workers at Bester Transport: “That woman, Landa, must pray for us. When things go wrong we know where our help comes from. From God.” Johan Botha from Bester Transport also says, “What she does makes a big difference. It is a seed in our hearts and each one of us is here with a purpose. If you take it away, there is a gap. Sometimes I wonder which way to turn, but then I think of Landa’s example and I realise I do not have a reason to complain.”
It is heart-warming to hear how Industrial Ministry helps to give people’s lives new meaning in their places of work.
